Cocooner: A Lockdown Diary

Paddy Smith, a 77-year retired broadcaster and journalist with RTÉ and the Irish Independent, was commissioned by Creative Ireland and Meath County Council to publish his private diary documenting his experience of cocooning during the pandemic.

The resulting publication, Cocooner: A Lockdown Diary has now been published as a book and is available in Antonia’s Bookstore in Trim as well as online. The book is one of the Creative Ireland Programme’s 25 creative projects for older people supported throughout 2020 as part of the Positive Ageing and Creative Well Being Programme.

In this illustrated diary, the veteran journalist has produced an “invaluable record of these times” as he recorded the impact of the pandemic on his family’s daily life. A poignant, yet funny account of the extraordinary year that was, Jackie Maguire of Meath County Council says “Paddy Smith has embraced the spirit of ‘all in this together’ and manages, through his insights and reflections, to lift the heart in these difficult times”.
