Creativity in Older Age

“The effect of the pandemic on our older citizens has been devastating. Through necessity they have had to isolate themselves away from family and friends and in doing so have lost the social links that generate contentment, confidence and mental wellbeing. My department knows the arts and creative programmes can help to rebuild the social connections that have been lost.” Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Catherine Martin T.D

In July 2020 Minister Catherine Martin T.D launched Creative Ireland’s wide ranging Creativity in Older Age fund designed specifically to counteract the social side effects of the pandemic. At a time when older people can feel cut off; we’re delighted to facilitate a range of creative initiatives that will break isolation, provide joy and solidarity.

Working with both national partners and our partners in local authorities Creative Ireland has been able to introduce new creative projects that are truly imaginative and are innately responsive to the needs of our older people. At a time when life seems so restricted creativity helps us all feel free.
