An integral part of the Ireland’s Ancient East region and the home of such heritage sites as Castle Durrow, Emo Court and the Rock of Dunamase, Laois is a county that places its rich cultural endowments at the heart of life for all its citizens. As part of its Creative Ireland Culture and Creativity Strategy, Laois is enhancing this dedication to arts access for all by concentrating its projects and initiatives around the core themes of identity, culture, and citizenship.
Laois already boasts a robust arts and library infrastructure which includes such flagship institutions as the Dunamaise Arts Centre - the county’s primary multi-disciplinary performance space - the Laois Arthouse, and the Laois School of Music. In partnership with the Arts Council and Fáilte Ireland, Laois County Council have worked successfully to foster the development, promotion of, and access to the abundance of heritage and cultural spaces contained therein.
