Galway City Museum will develop educational resource packs with high-quality information and lesson plans for primary school teachers that relate to key objects on display at the Museum.
Developed with support from the Galway Education Centre, the lesson plans will allow for deeper interaction with our objects and will encourage creative responses, such as imaginative writing, life-story writing, storyboarding, drama, drawing and clay modelling. It is envisaged that the educational material will be used in the classroom pre- or post- a visit to the Museum.
The material will be developed to include a range of individual and group activities that support the upper primary school curriculum in the areas of History, English, Gaeilge, and Arts Education (Visual Arts, Drama and Music). It is proposed that the project will begin by focussing on six key objects, including the Richard Joyce Claddagh Ring and the statue of Pádraic Ó Conaire (sample material included), and that two further objects will be added per year. The material will be presented to schools in the form of a printed resource pack and will also be made available to download from the Museum’s website.
