Hamish Napier and Jarlath Henderson are being commissioned to compose a new work to celebrate twenty years of work collecting,preserving and promoting the traditional music of Inishowen. The composers will work with a newly established group of twenty young musicians 15-20 year olds who will perform the composition at a special event in November '19 to mark the 20th anniversary of ITMP. This project will give the group an opportunity to work with International artists on a music and song commission. The collaborative process will give the participants ownership of the music, and the performance which will be in a rural setting, will help to give them a pride of place. This opportunity will also showcase the musical maturity of the younger musicians who have progressed through ITMP over the years.
We forsee this work performed at many events in the future and forming a potential colloborative basis for a work to celebrate the Colmcille Commemoration which will take place in 2021. The final performance and the colloborative process will be filmed and recorded for publication online on our digital archive.
