A Song for a Bridge

Welcome to a song writing workshop with acclaimed contemporary composer Carole Nelson and accomplished traditional Irish singer/musician Niamh Kenny. Following the successful collaboration with the community on the Brosna Suite in 2021, this year's workshop will use the wonderful railway bridge in Ferbane as inspiration. The setting is a picturesque bend in the river Brosna reached along the former railway line, through a mature beech woodland. The stone bridge, with its two skewed brick arches, now carries a beautiful calcareous meadow instead of trains.

The project is part of the Brosna Relay – an initiative for connecting communities along the river Brosna, and Ferbane Tidy Town’s Green Infrastructure Strategy which is raising awareness of the cultural and natural heritage in Ferbane. You don’t have to live along the river to join in – all budding and experienced songwriters are welcome! The workshop is free, but places are limited, so booking is essential. The event will be filmed at the bridge and at Gallen Community School. Please be prepared to be on camera! Lunch and refreshments provided.
