Amhráin ‘gus Áit

Amhráin ‘gus Áit is a traditional song research and performance project devised and produced by Rachel Uí Fhaoláin of Ceol Mo Chroí. Amhráin ‘gus Áit will connects songs to places in Ireland through film. 

This phase of the project will involve the re-energising of a local traditional song from the older generation of singers in Co. Clare. The project objectives are to connect songs with place, to increase community engagement and to facilitate song transmission across the generations.

Rachel will examine the song repertoire of the late Jamesie McCarthy (1898-1977). Jamesie McCarthy, born in Quilty in Co. Clare, had a varied repertoire although he was known mainly as a singer of comic songs. Focusing on the song ‘St. Brigid’s Well’ Rachel will produce a film incorporating St. Brigid's Well in Co. Clare, and the music of Jamsie McCarthy. The recording is part of The Carroll MacKenzie Collection at Clare County Library Archives. thanks to the support of both Jim Carroll and Pat McKenzie who recorded this song from Jamesie McCarthy in 1976.
