The project is the development and showing of a new aerial dance show called ‘Finding a Home’. The concept of the show is performing artists' experiences moving to Sligo and the idea came about with the current influx of displaced artists arriving in Sligo from Ukraine. As well as these Ukrainian artists there have been artists relocating from the USA, Germany, Italy and even the east coast of Ireland. All of the artists have moved to Sligo for a better quality of life and to find a home. Although they share a common goal in moving here to find a home they have all made the move for very different reasons; some for love, some fleeing war and some fleeing the cities during pandemic. The show will be a collaboration of communities; Ukraine communities with Sligo based aerial artists working together to create a show which will be premiered at The Wild Roots Festival in Sligo over the June bank holiday weekend. The show can also be performed again at other events around Sligo. The project hopes to achieve a creative collaboration between the Sligo aerial community and Ukrainian aerialists who have relocated to Sligo.
This collaboration will foster a creative relation between these two communities and help these artists express their experiences moving to Sligo and finding a home. This type of artistic creation and expression can help heal negative experiences.
