Birr Courthouse is in the process of being reclaimed for cultural and artistic use. However, there is a time lapse until the inside of the building will be useable so to promote the location and give ownership to the community, Birr Vintage Week & Arts Festival are using the Courthouse Yard as an arts Hub for 2022. We are running two projects that are designed to enhance the appearance of the space and give an opportunity for engagement to the community.
Community Flag Project: the flag project will start before Vintage Week, inviting community groups to each design a flag to represent their activities. Each group will work with a graphic designer to create a design to represent themselves. The designs will incorporate elements of heraldry and graphics based on the Macregol Gospels combined with graphics to represent each group.
The Art Wall: Partnering with Dom Kultury Praga Cultural Community Centre Warsaw, the Art Wall will combine artists collage paste-ups with graffiti, interrogating how this space can work with the community. It will be living research on both Vintage Week and the Courthouse Development. The community will be invited to both add answers to questions posed and contribute creative elements. There will be some formal workshops as well as drop in interaction kits with stickers and markers.
The Yard will be used for a series of workshops and performances throughout the week with live music, children’s events, yoga and night time illuminations.
