Audio Charged

Limetree Theatre and Performance Hub T/A The GAFF

The GAFF is a resource for the performing arts in Limerick, connecting artists, communities and the wider public.

To operate as a not-for-profit resource for the performing arts in Limerick, ensuring all citizens enjoy the transformative power of the arts, particularly in areas of disadvantage.

Audio Charged is an inter-generational project that will collect oral histories from older residents of Garryowen. Working with playwright Mike Finn and music artist Martin Ryan, young residents from Griffin House Direct Provision Family Hub will create audio field recordings of reflections and memories of forgotten skills in Limerick.

  • This project will allow young people to explore the rich heritage of Limerick's working class and explore the testimony of the retired members of their community. The young people will learn the art of recording audio and upgrading their digital skills.
  • Mike Finn, playwright and theatre-maker will show the young people how to shape stories from the audio and testimony they collect.
  • Martin Ryan will teach the young people how to collect oral history and to digitise the content for presentation.
  • The GAFF will connect the retired community with young people allowing a connection to the past and the future through art.
