"Bearings" Residency Programme

Laois artist, Deborah Corcoran's initiative Bearings is a collaborative response - residency that engages with ‘sense of place’ and the parameters of working on a farm in Laois.

Deborah has worked with her father and brother on their farm in Ballyroan, Co Laois. They repurposed materials to build on a marginal space on the farm - creating an active space for creative collaborations. Bearings is an extension of that work asking artists to respond to the locality.

Three artists Colm Keady-Tabbal, Aisling-Ór Ní Aodha and Chloe Reynolds are invited to a short-term residency programme grounded in rural Laois. The farm will be used as an introductory site to examine the local area and will extend into the community and close by towns and villages.

Local people & communities in the Ballyroan area are introduced to the artists and provide inspiration for Colm Keady-Tabbal 's sound piece; Aisling-Ór Ní Aodha's written piece; and Chloe Reynolds' performative object intervention, as well as the physical farm itself.

The works will be available to the public via the ‘Bearings2022’ Instagram account on 13 August from 6-7pm.

Deborah is a recipient of Made in Laois (co-create) grant scheme 2022. The aim of the grant scheme is to bring together a creative practitioner and community / communities of place and interest for co-creation and collaborative initiatives.
