Cafe Link, past present and future

This project will co-produce a documentary with our supported staff and service users, in collaboration with a local filmmaker, to tell the story of Cafe Link from its beginnings to its future.

Founded in 1994 by parents of adults with intellectual disabilities, Cafe Link began as a training café focused on skills development and inclusion.

Since then, the organisation has undergone significant transformation in location, scope, and funding models.  In 2026 the newest iteration of Cafe Link Ballybane will reintroduce a training café model, combining paid employment with structured placements through Community Employment and TUS programmes in partnership with Le Cheile Westside, Galway City Partnership, and GRETB.

This documentary will be co-produced with participants, who will shape the narrative and share their lived experiences. It will highlight long-standing members and new participants, capturing the impact of Cafe Link over time.

The project will culminate in a public screening event at the PorterShed, catered by the Cafe Link team, bringing together staff, families, supporters, funders, and local stakeholders.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
