Caherconnell International Furnace Festival

The Caherconnell Furnace Festival is a family fun weekend showcasing medieval iron smelting and forging that takes place at Caherconnell Stone Fort in the heart of the Burren.

It will feature more than 50 blacksmiths and traditional iron smelters from across Ireland, the UK, Europe and the USA .

Festival goers can enjoy watching the production of iron and steel, made from local materials, and then forged into objects of art and practical use.

The iron will be made by an group of international smelters and the forging by Irish blacksmiths.

The Festival will be a spectacle for young and old, with free guided tours and an Open Air Museum detailing the history of iron production in Ireland. The ‘birth of iron’ is a unique and thrilling experience that is not to be missed.
