CARER: The life behind the love
Over 1 in 8 people provide care to family members, whether that involves palliative care, care for a loved adult or child with physical, intellectual, or additional needs, or an elder. Carers often experience stress, fatigue, & isolation due to the ongoing responsibility of supporting another person’s needs. Balancing caregiving with personal life, work, & relationships can be difficult, sometimes leading to burnout.
There are, however, many positive aspects to life as a carer. Supporting a family member can strengthen the relationship, give deeper purpose and meaning to life, and, over time, carers often develop resilience, patience, empathy, and emotional strength. These qualities can shape how a person handles challenges in all areas of their life.
This 6-week project aims to provide a creative platform to a group of family carers to explore the impacts, challenges, and rewards of life as a long-term carer. Through a process-based approach, the participants will access a range of art materials as a means of self-expression in a safe and empathic environment.
