Carving through Time

This project will transform a number of mature trees, which must be removed from the church grounds to improve light levels and reduce the risk of storm damage to the church's historic stained-glass windows, into a series of permanent story sculptures. Rather than losing these trees entirely, the committee proposes commissioning an artist to creatively carve and reinterpret selected trunks, preserving a tangible link to the site's natural and cultural heritage.

Located inside the church gates, the sculptures will become focal points for community gathering, reflection, and storytelling, drawing inspiration from the rich history of Wolfhill, including the origins of the village's name, its mining heritage, and the memories, traditions, and experiences of local people. Working in consultation with the community, further research and story collection will inform the artistic designs, ensuring that the sculptures authentically reflect local identity and heritage.
