As Sandyford Youth Band prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2027, this project will mark an exciting new chapter in the band's artistic journey while continuing our commitment to community participation and accessibility.

At the heart of the project is the commissioning of a brand-new work for concert band by Irish composer William Chester. Band members will work directly with the composer during a dedicated workshop, gaining a unique insight into the creative process before giving the world premiere at Sandyford Youth Band's 10th Anniversary Concert in May 2027. A further workshop with six specialist tutors will support members in developing their musicianship, technical skills and ensemble performance as they prepare for this landmark occasion.

Alongside these creative opportunities, the project will continue to strengthen community engagement through regular rehearsals and performances, enabling young musicians to share high-quality live music across the local area.

Accessibility remains central to our mission. Funding will also provide a bursary for a member experiencing financial hardship, ensuring that they can continue their musical education and remain an active part of the band.

This project celebrates creativity, collaboration and inclusion, investing in the next generation of musicians while enriching the cultural life of the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown community.
