Children's workshops with Limerick City Gallery of Art

This series of workshops is a collaboration between Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA) and Dance Limerick. They aim to engage students from a selection of chosen schools and classes with Mark Garry’s ‘Songs and the Soil’ installation in the south gallery (the meadow of flowers) and Aideen Barry’s upcoming exhibition ‘By Slight Ligaments’. Students will explore the language and movement we can use to describe our senses through poetry, song writing and dance.

The dance element of the workshops offers children creative opportunities to gain an embodied experience of the visual art exhibition.  Over the course of the project they will be guided by choreographic techniques such as Mirroring, Question & Answer, Canon and Unison. This is designed to help children use their bodies to explore shape and space and the dynamics of movement (speed and rhythm), and to enable them to create their own kinetic language to the current exhibition.
