Children's Writing Workshops

Creative Ireland funding has been used for three children's projects organised by Clare County Library.

Syrian families in Ennistymon took part in a series of 7 workshops to create a compilation of their own stories. Connections: Stories by Syrian Families in County Clare. The project was shared by children of Ennistymon National School and their parents and siblings and facilitated by author Debbie Thomas and illustrator Tatyana Feeney with Clare County Library.

Author Debbie Thomas described the workshop experience  "like dropping in on a lively and loving family. The friendship and laughter among the eleven children, mothers and sisters reflected the strong community born three years ago on their arrival in Ennistymon as part of the United Nations Resettlement Scheme.

The second project will take place during Children's Book Festival in October.

The third project involves a series of poetry workshops in library branches.
