Inishowen Traditional Music Project will host a creative opportunity to bring a group of young people 10-18 years together to develop a music and song ensemble. This will be delivered through a series of workshops facilitated by prominent local musicians leading to a final performance in person and online. During the pandemic this group of musicians and singers have not been able to engage or meet with other musicians their age.

ITMP would like to provide an open invitation to young musicians and singers from Inishowen and surrounding areas to take part in the music camp. The camp will be in the form of a weeklong programme providing young musicians and singers the opportunity to collaborate and create music and song together. ITMP will employ Lorna McLaughlin, Joleen McLaughlin and a team of facilitators to work with the groups to create and develop music and song. Lorna and Joleen will work closely with Inishowen Singers Circle and ITMP to select songs and music from their respective archives to be developed for the group.

A performance will take place at the end of the week allowing the young participants to showcase their work. This project is innovative in that it harnesses the rich archive of music ITMP has collected and will use this is a creative basis for new musical arrangements and engagement. In this way, ITMP is actively keeping the traditional music of the area alive while making it relevant and important to a new generation of musicians.
