City of Sound
City of Sound is a citywide music participation programme delivered across all Cork City Library branches, creating accessible opportunities for people of all ages to engage with music, creativity and community. Through a year-round programme of workshops, lessons and performance opportunities, the initiative aims to make music part of everyday life in neighbourhoods across Cork.
The programme includes toddler music sessions, children's instrumental tuition, traditional music workshops, adult music classes, and regular community trad sessions, offering pathways for participation from early childhood through to later life. Delivered by local musicians, music educators and creative practitioners, activities will support learning, confidence-building, self-expression and social connection in welcoming and inclusive settings.
By embedding creative activity within the library network, City of Sound broadens access to culture and creativity while strengthening community wellbeing and social cohesion. The project encourages intergenerational engagement, supports local artists and musicians, and creates opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to come together through shared musical experiences.
Aligned with Cork's vision for a vibrant, creative and inclusive city, City of Sound will help nurture new audiences, develop musical skills, and foster a stronger sense of belonging through participation in culture and creativity at a local level.
