Clonmel Junction Arts Festival 2020

The initial proposal was to create a base of arts activities in Market Place Clonmel during the week of the festival with pop up shops dedicated to visual art, music, animation and creative writing supported by in school workshops in advance of the Festival. It became apparent however that the engaged nature of both the pre festival work and the activity for festival week could not be delivered safely under Covid 19 restrictions.

Two projects were then selected as being feasible under new conditions.

Using the concept that music is best played in an ensemble, the Clonmel Rocks project was envisaged as a way of encouraging listening and developing musicianship by forming two rock bands. A call for auditions was issued to create the bands and People of Rock and The Broken Cogs were formed. Weekly band rehearsals were held by Zoom as well as a weekly Zoom band meeting where choosing the name, designing their band t-shirt and deciding how their video should look were all discussed. The bands' videos were released at 3pm on July 12th and with both bands enthusiastic about staying together, Music Generation was providing the platform for this to happen.

Be Creative was adapted to a series of art tutorials along different themes offered to local schools that could be sent home to children during lockdown. Posters were displayed throughout the town created from submissions under the Abstract Art and Portrait Drawings series.
