Co-Designing Cork's First Permanent LGBT Exhibition

This project supports a series of creative co-design workshops led by architect and designer Darren O'Connor with staff and volunteers from the Cork LGBT Archive. The workshops will shape the design of a permanent LGBT exhibition for Cork Public Museum, creating a unique opportunity for the community to collaboratively tell its own story and contribute to Cork's cultural heritage.

Through a structured and participatory design process, participants will explore how Cork's LGBT history can be presented in engaging, accessible and creative ways. Drawing on his expertise in exhibition design, architecture and public cultural spaces, Darren O'Connor will facilitate workshops that encourage dialogue, shared decision-making and creative exploration. Participants will contribute ideas, themes and interpretations, ensuring that the exhibition reflects the lived experiences, memories and perspectives of the community it represents.

Using design development sessions and visualisation tools, including exhibition concepts and 3D designs, the workshops will enable participants to experiment with different ways of presenting stories, objects and archival material. This collaborative approach places community participation at the heart of the project, fostering a strong sense of ownership while building skills and confidence in creative decision-making.
