Community Stitch Up

No4 Youth Service will deliver a structured sewing and creative skills workshop programme. The project will target socially isolated young people aged 17–24, including those experiencing mild mental health challenges, low confidence, or limited access to structured extracurricular activities.

The programme will be inclusive of young people from diverse backgrounds, including those identifying as LGBTQ+ and those not engaged in mainstream youth services (NEETs), giving participants opportunities to:

  • Learn basic and intermediate sewing skills (hand sewing and machine use)
  • Engage in creative design and upcycling projects
  • Work collaboratively on group pieces
  • Develop life skills such as patience, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Sewing is a therapeutic, hands-on activity that promotes mindfulness, reduces stress, and builds confidence. It also provides practical life skills and fosters a sense of achievement. Importantly, the group setting encourages social interaction, peer support, and community integration.

The project will be delivered through:

  • A qualified facilitator with experience in sewing and youth work
  • Support from youth workers to ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment
  • Provision of all materials (fabric, thread, sewing machines, etc.)
  • A participant-led approach, allowing young people to shape projects based on their interests
  • Ongoing evaluation and feedback, including participant reflections and outcome tracking
