Cork has four significant literary festivals, well spaced through the year, all attracting quality writers and good audiences;

Other supports for creative writing and writers:

Creative writing groups hosted citywide throughout Cork City Libraries

Summer School of Creative writing held annually in Cork City Libraries

The City Library as a key space for book launches for established and emerging writers

regular weekly sessions, such as the ‘Ó Bhéal’ and Friary nights;

the range of support offered by the Munster Literature Centre;

MA in creative writing in UCC;

While the interested public are well aware of what is happening, much needs to be done to get the message across:

To engage with the wider public;

To have Cork recognized nationally and internationally as a writers’ city.

2019 Action

The objective of this project would be to a) construct a narrative that established Cork as a great place for writers to live and work, and a great place for readers to encounter writers from all over the world, and b) copper-fasten this narrative in the public mind, and in the media;

In short, to ensure that the whole (i.e. Cork ~ A Writers’ City) is greater than the sum of the parts (the festivals, MLC, etc.)

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
