Crafting Communities – A Creative Wellbeing Project
Crafting Communities is a new arts initiative designed to reduce social isolation and foster connection through creativity. Developed in response to local feedback, the project offers inclusive, affordable, and accessible workshops for people who are seeking meaningful social engagement in the Carrick-on-Shannon area.
Led by local artists in collaboration with the Social Prescribing Link Worker and Breffni Family Resource Centre, the workshops will explore a range of art forms including batik, glass fusing, lino printing, collage, journaling, and willow weaving. These sessions are open to all, with a focus on welcoming those who may feel marginalised or disconnected.
Participants will be supported in expressing themselves through hands-on, creative exploration. The process will be documented through photography and journaling, helping individuals reflect on their journey and continue their artistic practice beyond the workshops.
The project will culminate in a community exhibition, celebrating the work created and the connections formed. By blending traditional and contemporary art forms, Crafting Communities offers a vibrant, supportive space where creativity becomes a tool for wellbeing, inclusion, and community building.
