Creative Parks: The People's Garden
The People’s Garden is an intergenerational creative project that brings together community gardeners, local residents, families, young people and artists to explore sustainability, food, biodiversity and shared cultural experiences through creative participation. Developed in partnership with the Togher Community Allotment at Clashduv Park, the project builds on an established community of growers who have been cultivating food, knowledge, friendships and environmental stewardship since 2022.
Led by artists Aoife Barrett and associate artist Amal Hope, the project will support participants to co-create artistic responses inspired by gardening, growing, cooking, storytelling and caring for the natural environment. Through workshops, creative research, printmaking, biodiversity activities, food sharing and community gatherings, participants will shape the direction of the project, ensuring that local knowledge, experiences and ambitions remain at its heart.
Working with the Togher Community Allotment, local schools, community groups and family support services, the project will engage approximately 120 participants in a programme of creative activity culminating in a public celebration during the 2026 Cork Midsummer Festival. The project celebrates the rich cultural diversity and environmental ethos of the allotment of the community, where members from many backgrounds come together to grow food, share skills, protect biodiversity and strengthen community connections.
