Cultural Exchange: Climate Stories Across Cultures Through Creative Expression

Cultural Exchange is a community-led initiative run in Westside Resource Centre that has been invited by Galway City Council through the Local Authority-Integration Team to contribute to the Inspirations Global Food and Climate Festival. In response to this invitation, the initiative has been adapted to engage with climate change through culturally grounded storytelling, global food and creative expression.

The project brings together community participants from diverse cultural backgrounds in Galway, alongside local artists, to create an immersive, interactive environment exploring how climate change is experienced across different countries.

The event will take place during the festival, where six country-based stands (Pakistan, Nigeria, Iran, Ukraine, Somalia, and Ireland) will be presented simultaneously, distributed across the festival space. Visitors will be invited to move between the stands, engaging with climate experiences as lived and expressed within each country’s cultural context.

Each stand is led by community participants who share lived experiences of climate change through storytelling, supported by visual and spatial design developed with artists. Cultural elements, including small traditional snacks, provide accessible entry points that invite visitors into these conversations.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
