Dála

'Dála' is a participatory creative project bringing together Galway City social enterprises (Umbrella Le Chéile, Stitch Together, Voices and Visions) and community organisations (Multinational Creatives, Montessori Family Group) – comprising migrants, refugees, international protection applicants, temporary beneficiaries, and local residents – to explore identity, culture, and shared values through collaborative design.

Over six facilitated workshops, participants work with Roscommon Women's Network's CycleUp Textiles (sustainable art) and a professional graphic designer to co‑create visual designs highlighting cultural commonalities. Themes of belonging, identity, and shared traditions are translated into wearable artworks – badges, t‑shirts, tote bags, lanyards – while building skills for social enterprise development.

The project emphasises unity over division, promoting intercultural understanding and inclusion. It provides free, structured creative participation for groups facing barriers to arts engagement. Participants gain creative and digital design skills, confidence, connection, and ownership. The initiative culminates in a public exhibition across Galway community venues and libraries, showcasing co‑created designs and their stories. By combining creativity, participation, and collaboration, Dála contributes to a more inclusive, connected, and culturally vibrant Galway City.
