Development Education through Literature

Poetry Ireland are designing and delivering a Development Education through Literature Programme with writer John W. Sexton in partnership with Clare Arts Office, Clare Education Centre and Creative Ireland.

This will consist of two stand alone professional development sessions for participating teachers and 32 in-school sessions will be delivered virtually to up to 8 participating schools.

The project is being developed by the project partners in 2020 and will be delivered in 2021 following COVID guidelines. To this end, preparations are being made to deliver the programme on line.

The programme will be delivered by John W. Sexton, the author of six poetry collections and creater and writer of The Ivory Tower for RTÉ Radio, which ran to over one hundred half-hour episodes from 1999 to 2002. Two novels based on the characters from this series have been published by the O’Brien Press: The Johnny Coffin Diaries and Johnny Coffin School-Dazed, which have been translated into both Italian and Serbian. He has recorded an album with legendary Stranglers frontman, Hugh Cornwell.

The set up and selection of poet took place in 2020 and the workshops will happen in January.
