DJ Post for Doughiska Active Teen Space
Following the adoption of the Green Spaces Strategy, Recreation & Amenity is implementing key findings to address under‑provision of play facilities for teenagers. Plans are underway for an Active Teen Space (ATS) in Doughiska Park – a play area with small/medium social facilities near public transport and active travel routes, co‑designed with young people. Located beside a new skate park and adjacent to Merlin College, it provides self‑directed and passive recreation as a 'teen hub'.
Creative Ireland funding is sought for a DJ post – an interactive, LED‑lit piece of equipment that plays music from a smartphone via human power, sustainable and weatherproof – installed in a performance space for young people to play music, socialise, and dance. The ATS was co‑designed with Merlin College students (March 2025) and informed by Galway City Comhairle na nÓg engagement; the DJ post was identified by youth as a desired element. This pilot project will provide proof of concept to transform Galway into a city that actively supports its youth through thoughtful, integrated community‑led planning.
