Errigal, A Sacred Mountain
For a long time the lofty grandeur and imposing presence of Mount Errigal has charmed painters, photographers and film-makers. This great iconic peak has also been over half a century the focal point of much of Gort a’Choirce writer Cathal Ó Searcaigh’s acclaimed poetry in the Irish language.
Celebrating the publication of his latest anthology - Errigal, A Sacred Mountain – Cathal is joined by renowned musician and composer Neil Martin, internationally acclaimed actor Stephen Rea and noted traditional singer Diane Cannon, for a special evening of spoken word and newly commissioned music and song.
The new publication by Irish Pages is a mix of memoir, observation, wry humour and wisdom. It includes translations of Ó Searcaigh’s poems by some of Ireland’s most outstanding poets, including Seamus Heaney, Paddy Bushe, Thomas McCarthy and Gabriel Rosenstock.
The evening will include the premiering of a new work by Neil Martin also inspired by the mountain, the performance of two new songs written by Cathal Ó Searcaigh for Diane Cannon and readings by Stephen Rea of a selection poetry and prose writings featured in Errigal, A Sacred Mountain.
This special public performance, Neil Martin’s music commission and the Errigal -A Sacred Mountain publication, have received assistance from Creative Ireland, Donegal County Council and Ealaín na Gaeltachta.
