Artist Christine Mackey has developed a project working with local plant material in collaboration with willow weaver Helena Golden working with a local community group based in Carrick on Shannon known as the Corryeolus Womans Group.
The process involves the creation of botanical lumen prints and plaster plant reliefs using a range of plant and analogue print processes. Leading on to a number of weaving workshops with Helena working with different techniques and patterns to create a series of basket forms.
The ultimate focus here is on the collective to devise a water-based installation combining a series of willow baskets planted with key remedial plants which will be floated later on in the summer at Blackrock Pond that can create novel habitats and heal potentially damaged water systems. This work is an extension of a project for EcoShowBoat.
