Flora & Fauna Mural
This project by Portlaoise Educate Together explores Ireland’s rich natural heritage through the creation of a large-scale community mural inspired by native flora and fauna. Participants will work with a professional artist to research and celebrate the biodiversity of the local environment, drawing inspiration from indigenous plants, wildflowers, birds, insects, and animals that form an important part of Ireland’s natural landscape. Through creative workshops and collaborative design sessions, participants will contribute ideas and imagery that reflect their connection to nature and their appreciation of the local environment.
Interwoven throughout the mural will be elements of Irish folklore, mythology, and storytelling, highlighting the enduring relationship between nature and cultural identity in Ireland. By combining ecological themes with traditional folklore, the project will create a vibrant and visually engaging public artwork that celebrates both the natural and cultural heritage of the area. The completed mural will serve as a lasting community asset, fostering environmental awareness, creativity, and pride of place while encouraging people of all ages to engage with and value Ireland’s unique natural heritage.
