This project will explore and present the history of Donaghmore Workhouse and Village, with a particular focus on the period before, during, and after the Great Hunger, through an innovative multidisciplinary approach combining music, soundscape, film, and language. Drawing on historical research, archival sources, local folklore, and community memories, the project will examine the profound social, cultural, and human impact of one of the most significant periods in Irish history. Through the creation of immersive soundscapes, original musical compositions, spoken word, and filmic interpretation, it will seek to evoke the lived experiences of those who passed through the workhouse, the resilience of the surrounding community, and the lasting legacy of famine on the landscape and collective memory of the area. 

The project will explore themes of poverty, survival, migration, family, loss, and renewal, while also highlighting the rich cultural traditions and local stories that have endured across generations. By blending historical fact with creative expression, the work aims to make this important history accessible and engaging for contemporary audiences, fostering a deeper understanding of Donaghmore’s unique heritage and creating meaningful connections between past and present through the powerful mediums of sound, image, and language.
