Hedge School in Geashill
This is a project funded under the Offaly Open Call Community for projects 2020.
It consists of the laying of the hedge at the boundary of the national school and using it as the basis for ongoing workshops examining the plants and species growing there. It evolved from the Bioblitz held in Geashill in May 2019 when John Feehan did a 1.5 hour workshop discussing the plants in 40m of hedgerow in the play area of the school which had never been fully examined before.
This led to the idea of regenerating the somewhat neglected hedge and bringing in master hedge layer Eoin Donnolly to carry out the work and have interaction with the National School and local community during the process.
The second part of the process is to deliver a series of workshops based on the wildflowers and hedgerow plants growing right in the centre of Geashill village.
