Joyce Brothers Music Festival

Run by Ballyhoura Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann (BCCE), this festival aims to engage the local community and those from further afield with the local Joyce Brothers. They have collected and documented Irish music, songs and poetry. The festival will be a programme of historical talks, musical performances, workshops and walks aimed at preserving the Joyce collection through practical application.

Friday 8th Oct

The festival will open with a historical talk on the legacy of the Joyce brothers, followed by a concert of their tunes and an open session where local and visiting musicians will get a chance to play.

Saturday 9th Oct

A series of workshops will be held to teach the music and songs of the collection. This will be followed by a seisiún aimed at younger musicians.

In the evening, a concert will be held where the audience will hear tunes and songs from the collection played by Liam O’Connor and Ciarán Ó Gealbháin and will also be introduced to important resources such as the ITMA Joyce Port Project.

Sunday 10th Oct:

Angela Hennessy, historian, will lead a walk to the Joyce Brothers homestead in Glenosheen.

This will be followed by the festival close in Kilfinane.

Concerts will be performed in the Old Chapel Rooms, Kilfinane, in compliance with Covid-19 guidelines. The concerts will also be live streamed.
