Julianstown Youth Orchestra Development Programme
Julianstown Youth Orchestra New Music Project
Now in its tenth year the Julianstown Youth Orchestra, under the leadership of Fergus Sheil (Irish National Opera), continues to go from strength to strength and now comprises of 100 members – 35 Junior (primary school age) and 65 Senior (secondary school). Located at Colaiste na hInse, Bettystown, Co Meath, the junior orchestra meet each Saturday morning conducted by Ailbhe Kirkan and senior orchestra each Friday night conducted by Fergus Sheil. Parallel to this a wide range of instrumental teaching is provided to members by professional musicians including members of the RTE Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra is led musically by Fergus Sheil (Irish National Opera).
The aim of the orchestra is to provide a uniquely high quality music experience for its members. Orchestra membership is open to all members of the community regardless of means or background.
In 2019 the orchestra has undertaken an ambitious programme of new music development. This new music project continues with the composition of five new works by members of the orchestra under the guidance of composer Brian Irvine. When completed, these works will be rehearsed and performed by JYO at a series of concerts –including the NCH and Solstice Arts Centre.
