Mindful Monsters

Baboró will again collaborate with Galway Arts Centre to present a contemporary exhibition for children in 2024. We will present Laura Angell’s vibrant work in Little Monsters. With Creative Ireland funding, we will expand and deepen the reach of the show by delivering complementary workshops to children, young people and their families in their community and invite them to visit the show.

Little Monsters will be a forest of bright, colourful needlepoint totems and wall-hangings, exploring themes of mental health through the inclusion of emoji patterns. Little Monsters evolved from previous work which explored success and the need for approval and love in a digital world and the anxiety that brings. In this evolution, the artist invites the viewer into the world of omens, symbols, and lucky charms in order to quell the anxieties of this world. These “Little Monsters” roam inside our heads demanding attention with their relentless chitter chatter. The work explores our emotions and the way we share those online. Laura’s artworks will be displayed throughout the Arts Centre and will also include a designated workshop area for making your own needlepoint squares.
