The heritage of Portarlington is explored through a new lens for locals and visitors using an augmented reality (AR) app. This is a collaboration between Laois Heritage, Libraries and Arts, local schools, and Makerspace Portarlington and engages with the historical content of the town and re-presents narratives using AR.
This exciting venture and animation of our local heritage will contribute to the visitor experience, as well as providing opportunities for young people to generate content responding to the town's heritage and architectural legacy, and learning more about how to make AR animations.
A commissioned artist will engage with local schools to generate content. Makeport makerspace will then work with the artist to create AR content that will be accessible via smart phones at specific sites throughout the town.
Makeport makerspace is a learning / making / creative community, led by local volunteers based in the Portarlington Enterprise Centre. Makeport makerspace facilitates workshops for children and young people in a wide range of new technologies and media.
