One City One Book

Cork City Libraries’ One City, One Book is an initiative to get the people of the city to read and discuss the same book. The event harnesses the power of reading to forge a new and exhilarating sense of community, belonging and pride of place and social cohesion appealing to the city’s diverse communities.

Authors include Frank O’Connor, Billy O’Callaghan, Yiyun Li, Catherine Kirwan, and Tadhg Coakley. The chosen book each year was the most borrowed adult book in CCLs in 2017; 2018, 2019 and 2020. The initiative is now grounded as an annual event and is a legacy project of Creative Ireland and vital to the process of establishing Cork City as a Unesco City of Literature. By obtaining this title along with Cork UNESCO City of Learning will make our city a more attractive place to live and work in supporting creatives on an international platform. The initiative also supports other artists and creatives by engaging the public in different art formats.

Danielle McLaughlin’s The Art of Falling is the 2021 title and will be launched virtually during Cork World Book Fest on April 25. The event is already sold out.
