One City One Book

The One City One Book project gets book loving Corkonians to read and discuss the same book. The event sees the city transformed into a citywide book club, with individuals, groups, book clubs and organisations partaking and building a sense of community throughout the city, promoting literacy and encouraging everyone to engage in reading.

However it is also an essential means of support to emerging local authors. In 2017 local writer Billy O'Callaghan's book The Things We Lose the Things We Leave Behind was the chosen title and was the most read adult book in Cork City Libraries that year. In 2019 Catherine Kirwan was the chosen author with her debut novel Darkest Truth. Based in Cork City the novel took us through the streets and communities of the city visiting local theatres pubs and restaurants. Catherine's book captured the imagination of the people of Cork and went on to be the most read book in Cork City Libraries in 2019, the first time ever for an adult book.

Bookstores, local radio and print media give this project huge support each year and it is of huge importance to emerging writers.

The local author for 2020 has just been chosen! Details soon.....
