The project idea is to give free public concerts on a performance platform created on the Garavogue river on Rockwood Parade for the weekend of 23 to 25 September 2022. Sligo Baroque Music Festival takes place over the weekend, with its theme this year being the element of Water, and as part of its programme a free outdoor public concert on Saturday mid-day is planned, with the Sligo Baroque Orchestra and other festival musicians presenting Handel's famous Water Music suite, for which the setting on the river would be ideal.
Starting with Culture Night on Friday 23 September, the Water Music platform will offer an eclectic mix of performances in multiple genres which will allow the public to experience them without the barriers of payment or access to enclosed venues. The project group will represent a broad range of arts and creative participants in the Sligo community. Collaboration in the planning of the weekend events will further cross-fertilisation and connections among the participants. Due to the free open access, the public will be able to experience varieties of arts performance that may be new to them.
