OUR Galway - Creative Skills Workshops
The project will provide access to creative workshops with local artists to explore art and crafts for COPE Galway’s clients (people experiencing homelessness). It builds upon staff members existing efforts to introduce creative and social activities, like karaoke, craft workshops and open-mic sessions.
The workshops will include:
(a) Basket-weaving: traditional Irish basket-making. Small group-sessions to be delivered by Sarah Jenkinson with a wide array of options to choose from, including bird feeders, planters, bike baskets etc.
(b) Print-Making: Lino printmaking technique using cut linoleum or wood to make relief prints on paper. Just Art It Galway are well known for their promotion of Irish made prints including prints as gaeilge.
(c) Beadwork: Creating original beadwork earrings or bracelets, to be facilitated by local artist Aisling O’Brien.
(d) Mural painting at the Family Hub: for younger people in our service, to design and paint a mural at COPE Galway’s Family Hub. This will be facilitated by a COPE Galway staff member with experience working with young people to paint murals through the French organisation, Tchouk’Art.
This project offers artist‑-led creative workshops for COPE Galway clients, supporting wellbeing, confidence, and social connection for people experiencing homelessness, and concluding with a shared showcase of participants’ work
