Our Type - Sligo
For this project, photographer Trevor Finnegan proposes to travel to all towns and villages across the county, to photograph traditional shopfronts, signage and typography of Ireland’s towns and villages.
The project’s aim is for people to recognise the importance of the ‘traditional shopfront’ in our society and support these disappearing trades in our local communities. It is also proposed that the stories behind each building be collated for future generations to enjoy. The beauty of these shopfronts is that on closer inspection you will see unique handcrafted details including carpentry, carved mouldings and corbels, hand-painted signage, painted carved block letters, etched glass and tiling. The photographs and stories will be on display in Trevor's hometown, Sligo, as part of an ‘Our Type – Sligo’ exhibition in June 2020.
