Poetry in the Park

Poetry in the Park is an initiative of Cork City Libraries in collaboration with Cork City Council’s Parks and Recreation Department,  bringing poetry into public spaces across Cork City. In 2025 poetry installations will be found in:

  1. Clogheenmilcon Walkway, Blarney
  2. Gerry O’Sullivan Park, Harbour View Road
  3. The Marina, Blackrock
  4. Fitzgerald’s Park, City centre
  5. Tramore Valley Park
  6. Ballincollig regional Park

These parks include the north and southside of the city, the city centre and the ‘new’ city area. The programme brings poetry to people in their everyday lives, creating a sense of community, awareness and celebration of the vibrant literary life of Cork City.

Established and award-winning poets are placed alongside emerging poets, young poets and intercultural voices celebrating the diversity of life and literature in the city.

In 2024 we continued to include visual response to poems as part of the installations. In 2025 we will continue to engage with other creatives to curate installations and we begin with a collaboration with HOWL and Poetry Ireland for the first installation of the year. Poets participating in the 21st Cork World Book Fest will also be showcased, as well as Irish language Poets, multilingual installations and a special installation of the lyrics of Rory Gallagher as part of this year’s Rory Gallagher Festival. Other Festivals will be supported also throughout the year such as Heritage Week, Culture Night and the Winter Warmer Festival.
