Public Art Commission – ‘Re-Imagining Enniscorthy’

The artist Els Harrington is commissioned to Re-Imagine Enniscorthy in a collaborative, place-based response to the climate crisis. The project is supported Wexford County Council’s Environment & Climate Action Team & Culture Team, Creative Ireland Programme, Sustainable Enniscorthy, the 3 Counties Energy Agency, the Per cent for Art Programme and Wexford Arts Centre.

The aim is to create a local ecology network through community growing, biodiversity and afforestation with the newly formed Community Allotments and other community groups. This initiative that will connect the public and communal green space of the town with a network of private gardens and the agricultural hinterland surrounding Enniscorthy.

The project explores our relationship to land and impact on the environment. The communal activities and shared experiences of making and cultivation will bring together a diverse mix of community groups and creatives plus encourage local participation. It is an opportunity for community engagement where planting, food-growing, building, and skills-sharing schemes will connect with art and craft practices.

Re-Imagining Enniscorthy will create a public space for discussion around questions of biodiversity, food security, regenerative growing practices, and sustainable agriculture. It will explore the daily actions that connect us locally with the systems of production and supply that feed into larger ecological and climate concerns.
