Queen Victoria Lecture - Edenderry

Queen Victoria's Visits to Ireland. 1849 - 1861; Views from the Irish Country House.

As we approach her 200th Birthday, and the 170th anniversary of Queen Victoria's first visit to Ireland, we take a look at the elaborate preparations and huge spending involved in welcoming the queen to our land. Every effort was made to ensure that a céad míle fáilte was extended to Victoria from peerage, gentry, and peasant alike. We also look at the houses she visited to discern if her visits made any difference to our built heritage.
