Recreate your favourite garment - sewing for sustainability
Recreate your favourite garment is a drafting and making sewing Workshop - a craft workshop on reuse and upskilling with the idea of providing the basic skills needed to take a pattern from a much-loved item of clothing (without taking it apart) and produce a new garment.
The workshop will have a focus on inclusion, connecting people that are not otherwise connected in the community and facilitated by an artist living locally. The project will be organised through a series of workshops held in the Community Shed. We plan to offer 3 practical tangible weekend workshops, with an extra Friday afternoon for troubleshooting and snagging.
We are very excited at the prospect of working with artist and designer Amy O Hara from Ballintogher, who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in textiles.
Geevagh Community Shed and Garden Projects hope to improve health and social outcomes in our rural community by creating a nearby, warm communal space to pursue interests and hobbies, practice skills and enjoy making and mending while making social connections and sharing knowledge and skills to help and sustain all of our community and local artists.
