Second Spring

Second Spring is an arts and wellbeing project that celebrates later life as a time of creativity, curiosity and renewal. Working with older residents from Westgate Foundation and Clúid Housing’s age‑friendly homes in Blackpool, the project creates a welcoming space where older people can come together to learn, play and make art.

Through a series of inclusive, artist‑led workshops, participants are invited to explore storytelling, visual art, music, craft and memory‑based creative practices. No previous artistic experience is needed. Activities are designed to be accessible to people of all abilities, including those living with dementia or long‑term health conditions.

Second Spring is rooted in community arts practice, with participants shaping the content, pace and direction of the programme. Older people are recognised as active creatives, drawing on their life experience, skills and stories while exploring new ideas in a supportive and playful environment.

The project aims to reduce isolation, strengthen social connection and support emotional and creative wellbeing. It will culminate in a celebratory community showcase, co‑designed and presented by participants, affirming their voices and creative contributions. Second Spring leaves a lasting legacy by building confidence, fostering belonging and reinforcing Westgate Day Centre as a vibrant, creative space for ageing well in Cork City.
