North-West Donegal (Magheroarty, Inishbofin, Falcarragh, Gortahork, Creeslough, Fanad) – programmed with the assistance of Ionad Pobail Mhachaire Rabhartaigh and community choirs in Fanad.Artist Cathal McGinley will be filmed making new work, a combination of plein air sketching/painting, at the locations in North-West Donegal (Magheroarty, Inishbofin, Falcarragh, Gortahork, Creeslough, Fanad) whch are relevant to the Donegal research and archives from the Geological Survey of Ireland 1845-1890.
This video material will be combined with audio/vocal pitching and imagery imagining elements of the nineteenth century ‘rock harmonicons’ or ‘stone xylophones’, and with images from archival materials relevant to Donegal from the Geological Survey of Ireland 1845-1890.
A selection of short video ‘behind the scenes’or ‘how to’ snippets of techniques and methods used and developed by artist Cathal McGinley will also be filmed.
The project’s art workshops and display of works produced through this community participation aims to promote a local community’s sense of ownership and regard for their natural environment.
The resulting digital works and the actual plein air sketching/painting works will be exhibited online available for subsequent exhibition at the sites of Ionad Pobail Mhachaire Rabhartaigh and offered to the Regional Cultural Centre exhibition spaces.
